My dd is 3yo. No dx other then unknown seizure disorder, speech delay and ADHD, She has high receptive language skills and I couldn’t get the drs to see past that and see past the seizures…and not blame it on “pre-existing” conditions. Seizures are under control at this time w/this diet She started talking after being gluten free casein free diet for 4 months. Things are getting better…no ADD at all. We are waiting for a hair test on dd.

Now my ds is 15mo. He is not talking…at all. We started fish oil and he is babbling a bit more. He was dx with reflux at 6 weeks old. As an infant he used to go in spurts of eating and starvation. We tried every type of formula but he refused to eat. We even tried soy which he projectile vomited up. He would poop as many as 10 times a day. On one of our many trips to the hospital he was admitted and tested for allergies. RAST blood test of course was negative. But is IgG and IgA was all messed up. It showed no antibodies or something like that…they explained it has being zero (I will go back and check). They didn’t understand what it meant but wanted to check again later for “metabolic” problems. We put him on neocate. He still did on and off feeds not as bad though. We retested and he tested a bit off but fine, we were happy because there weren’t any red flags. At this time we were struggling w/our dd but didn’t know of the diet. Then we switched him to whole milk because he loved yogurt and needed more food and would drink milk best. Then started solids…he loved. Now he eats almost anything and lots of it, but he is staying at the same weight (23lbs). Now my dd used to poop green before the diet. Now my son poops green too has for quite some time. We removed milk 3 days ago. He is now very whiny and screaming and crying, but no green poop. He also got an double ear infection10 days ago. He has always been susceptible to colds (we blamed reflux but now not sure). He also has always had eczema like bumps on his thighs and cheeks.

Going to start DMSA transdermal cream ordered by my DAN doctor from Coastal Pharmacy. Its been in the fridge for two weeks. I am still trying to find the pros and cons, before I start.

My son is 3.3 yrs non verbal, he is on lot of supplements, gluten free casein free diet, aba, OT for a year. Doctor told me to use “DMSA transdermal apply three times daily every OTHER Friday, Saturday, Sunday.”

Concerns:

1. We did not do any metal test, My DAN doctor said, since tests are not going to show anything, don’t waste money on any of the tests? But I ordered the White Plains hair test kit, just for my satisfaction. Any suggestion?

2. Three months ago, when we did the Yeast test, he was high on yeast, we have been doing the same diet (rotation diet), same supplements, poop got better and better to where it was perfect, but last two weeks, it starts getting really soft, and very bad odor. Looks like we may have yeast issue again. I heard kirkman has a yeast control enzyme something called Candice if I remember right? If I start DMSA now, should I watch out for anything in particular?

3. His behavior has changed in the last 4 weeks a lot (a mix of better and worst). He has been a very happy child to the most part, but lately he started crying , the crying is not just crying it’s like he is in pain or something. If we had started chelation, I would have thought it was the chelation caused this? I mean everybody including the doctor would have said the same thing. It was the DMSA, right? That really puzzles me? We would not really know what is causing the out of the blue, odd behaviors?

4. Sometimes, we are out of some of the supplements for a week or two weeks , during that time, I don’t see any big negative or positive reactions, does it mean he does not need those supplements?

5. Supplements he has been on the following supplements right now: Brain child vitamin Brain child mineral Calcium Cord Liver Oil Acidophilus powder Zinc Cultureule Pro bio gold Vitamin C DMG HN-Zyme Enzyme AFP- Peptizyde No-Fenol Gluathione cream twice a day b12 shots twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday)

I am thinking of adding the following : Milk Thistle Coromega Flaxseed B6 Magnesium (My Dan doctor feels no need for additional magnesium since he is getting it from Brain Childminerals) L-Carnosine’L-Glutamine Transfactor from 4life

I will start one at a time, but it is normal for these kids to have 20 vitamins a day right?

6. His diet has no sugar (we use Agave Nectar natural sweetener on pan cakes) no honey, only fruit he eats is pear, and only juice is pear juice. no candies. we tried other fruits sometimes with no phenol enzymes, we did not see any big change?

7. Again, mainly 3 times a day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on alternative weeks, transdermal DMSA, any suggestion? How to control Yeast during chelation? Is there any supplement I should add or watch out for?

A little while back, I decided to try making the nut butter balls since my son always seems to want high protein foods and I wanted him to put some weight on. I used them to add rice protein powder and some of his supplements. He loved them and I was excited to give them to him. I assumed he loved them as much as he did because they made him feel good (satisfaction of feeling full & nutrients). Before I knew it though, he wanted to eat them only which to me is a red flag. I decided to only make them twice a month instead of every week out of concern he would become allergic to peanut butter. All of a sudden, my son who only drank water became interested in apple juice. I thought it was great he wanted to drink something new and used that to put his supplements in. Since he has never had a real problem with phenols, I wasn’t too worried but I still gave him ZymePrime just in case. Before I knew it, he began refusing water. No more apple juice! Saturday night we had In and Out burgers and fries and I caught him scooping a spoonful of ketchup in his mouth. He has become a phenol kid! It started with the peanut butter and when I stopped that, he just kept finding a new high-phenol food to eat.

Over the last couple months my son has been hard to handle. All daylong he goes from one thing to the next getting himself into trouble. He has been climbing furniture, chewing through electrical cords, putting his fingers through the fan, damaging anything he can get his hands on and getting aggressive with his younger siblings. If I ever put my 10 month old on the floor, he runs over and wants to step on his head. It has gotten to the point where I have been wondering how long it will be until we have to institutionalize him for fear of him hurting our 4 other kids. I wondered if this behavior had anything to do with phenols?

I had a bottle of No-Phenol I had gotten since I heard it can help with yeast issues but hadn’t opened it up. Yesterday morning I gave him diluted apple juice but put 1/2 capsule of No-Phenol in. It was the most peaceful morning I have experienced in years. I kept going into my son’s room to check on him since he was so quiet (silence usually equals disaster). Each time he was happily playing with toys. I can’t believe the immediate difference. It’s amazing how problems like this creap up slowly to where you don’t notice it.
